The smiley face and other basic emoticons had a 30th anniversary in September 2012. They have a history of use. However, emoji, kaomoji, and kaoani have risen in popularity recently. These pictographs have become part of informal, written communication. They are prevalent in emails, text messages, and elsewhere on the web. EmotiLib is a digital library with a collection of emoticons, emoji, kaomoji, and kaoani. This digital library attempts to preserve these pictographs. It also acts to provide a single source for information and access to pictographs.
