About

The smiley face and other basic emoticons had a 30th anniversary in September 2012. They have a history of use. However, emoji, kaomoji, and kaoani have risen in popularity recently. These pictographs have become part of informal, written communication. They are prevalent in emails, text messages, and elsewhere on the web. EmotiLib is a digital library with a collection of emoticons, emoji, kaomoji, and kaoani. This digital library attempts to preserve these pictographs. It also acts to provide a single source for information and access to pictographs.

EmotiLib is a growing collection of emoticons, emoji, kaomoji, and kaoani relies on the research of the staff and contributition by users. EmotiLib makes selections for the collection which rank high on the following list of criteria: usefulness in serving the current or future needs of the public, unique information provided, and preserving the ephemeral nature of these pictographs. Formats accepted include ASCII and PNG, GIF, and JPEG files. Duplicates of existing entries will not be accepted; however, variations are welcomed in the collection. All emoticon, emoji, kaomoji, or kaoani with intellectual property rights will not be included in the collection.

Please help us develop the digital library collection, and preserve these pictographs. So, please contribute!
